Based on 512 reviewsDong Que Restaurant in San Jose is widely appreciated for its authentic Vietnamese cuisine, particularly its diverse snail dishes and flavorful hot pots. Reviewers consistently highlight the freshness of ingredients and the bold, well-balanced flavors that capture traditional Vietnamese tastes. Signature offerings like steamed clams with lemongrass, crispy fried chicken cartilage, and various snail preparations receive frequent praise for their quality and taste. The restaurant’s unique dipping sauces also stand out as a memorable complement to the dishes. While the vibrant atmosphere adds to the dining experience, some patrons find the environment quite loud, and parking can be challenging. Overall, Dong Que Restaurant is recognized as a top local destination for those looking to enjoy genuine, richly spiced Vietnamese fare in a casual, lively setting.
If you miss Vietnamese flavors and snail dishes, this is the restaurant I really recommend to you. It is really, really to my taste. I was extremely impressed with the steamed clams with lemongrass, stir-fried snails with coconut, crispy fried chicken cartilage or crispy fried frog, and boiled pork with eggplant and shrimp paste or fish hotpot (I didn't take pictures of these two dishes but order them, they are delicious). There is one dish, pig intestines, which I don't like and it has a strong smell, but the rest of the dishes are great. The staff is lovely, the restaurant is clean.
I had low expectations coming in, but I have to admit the snail dishes were delicious. Probably 4.5 , but since it pleasantly surprised me, I'll round up to 5 . I typically shrug when asked by out of towners where to go eat in San Jose, but now Dong Que is going to be my first and only recommendation for restaurants -- Vietnamese or otherwise -- in San Jose.
This place was so loud. I try to come here every time. I'm in town Balut was really good. This is the first time I ate balut and the it had a lot of feathers Sturgeon soup is so good so are their snails. I think one of my favorite things about this restaurant is the dipping sauce they give you. I would actually buy the green dipping sauce if they've sold it.. Parking lot kind of sucks you'll definitely get a door ding since the spots are so close together.
If you’re craving authentic Vietnamese flavors, Đong Que Restaurant is a must-visit! Every dish is packed with flavor and prepared to perfection. We tried the oc len xao dua, oc chi tay, and oc muu—all super fresh and rich in taste. The ga chien gion nuoc mam was crispy, savory, and addictive. The thit suon was juicy and tender, and the goi rau muong was the perfect refreshing balance to the meal. The staff was friendly, and the environment was clean and cozy. Highly recommend for anyone who loves Vietnamese seafood and homestyle dishes!
I recently returned to Đong Que restaurant since Lunar New Year and enjoyed a fantastic dinner. The presentation of the Thai hot pot, Pattaya salad, and snails was amazing. The quality was decent, and the spices and taste were a blast for each dish. Besides, the presentation and quality deep-fried fish was decent and edible. I often get their hot pot and snails to-go during busy school hours, so I know the spiciness and the exact time they need to prepare the meals for home delivery.
Super authentic Vietnamese restaurant. I loved seeing the wide range of demographic come through here. You got the aunties in here along with the younger crowd celebrating birthdays. So you know the food was going to be good seeing all the different age groups here. The food was delicious. The things I would order again are the banana blossom chicken salad (favorite dish), canh chua, oysters and snails. The banana blossom salad was incredible. It was super light and came with an oniony taste to it. Loved it a lot. The oysters were also delicious. It reminded me of what I had in Danang. I would pass on the chicken wings. They are kinda small and not worth the price. The shrimp was okay; once you get pass the shell, the inside was unseasoned. Service was decent. It gets very packed and you have to call out to get their attention. Don’t be shy! They are hustling hard and you gotta use your voice or hand gestures to get what you need !
The escargots and grilled scallop with fish eggs were beautifully presented—5 out of 5. I’ll definitely return to order these again. Excellent service and a great ambiance.
It's chaotic, it's crowded, and the parking sucks. It's loud, boisterous, and filled with groups of people. The food is hands on and can be messy. The digs are worn, and the tables are small. The food is great, service is fast, and the variety of options is big. Plan to have a casual, fun with your friends having a few beers, eat authentic Vietnamese food, and enjoy life.
